"We're not married," McGee had protested to the psychiatrist who had mistaken them for the couple he had had an appointment with.
"Not yet," Tony had said and then grinned at the LOOK Tim had given him. The look that always turned Tony on. Tony had done his best to keep that look on his Probie's face by telling the doctor they were "very special agents" in a tone that implies that, yes, they were a couple. Then he had razzed Tim, blatantly flirted with him and grinned in triumph as he was awarded with McGeek's full attention.
Tony had been thrilled with how easy it had been to wind Probie up, get him frustrated and focussed on him and only him. At least until they wound up in the parking garage with a crazy person. One that had tried to run him over and almost succeeded. By the time he was clinging to the barricade and dangling over a hundred foot drop, all he could think of was "I really should have kissed him" and "I'm about to die."
Then McGee had saved him, putting aside his huge fear of heights to do so. And as they sat next to each other, Tony finally realized the truth and blurt out the first thing to come to his mind. "I love you," he confessed.
"I know," McGee replied, "but were you serious earlier?"
"About what?" Tony asked.
"The not yet, back at the psychiatrist's office. When it comes to us being married. Is that what you want?"
"It's illegal," Tony pointed out.
"Here, yes, but we could go with the next best thing, if you wanted to," Tim pointed out.
"Gibbs'd explode. And then give us the head slap to end all head slaps."
"I think it'd be worth the risk," Tim said.
"Maybe," Tony said and took Tim's hand in his own, squeezed it and helped him up. Wondering if they were now engaged.
